Diving into Flex
I’ve been dabbling with cs3 for a few months and decided to see what all the fuss was about with Flex last week. My original impressions a few years ago weren’t great but I never really gave Flex a chance. Frankly, I think we’ve gone a bit too far with XML and MXML is an example of that (I’ve been opting for JSON over XML lately). Still, if you look at the MXML part as...

World Day Against Software Patents!
Can’t say enough about this. Copyright is all we need. Patents do nothing but hamper progress. Let’s ban patents on software folks. Check it out:

Actionscript Bin to Hex
Little trick before you try creating your own functions:
trace (parseInt(“101001”, 2).toString(16))
output: 29
The second param for parseInt and the param for toString is a radix. :)

Flash Internationalization
One of the worst periods in my career as a dev was when I had to build games with Macromedia Director 4. Updatestage.com was very popular at the time because it had workarounds for various bugs (I discovered at least two bugs and workarounds that were added to the list). The amount of extra time we had to spend on projects at the time was ridiculous. Many projects would go bust because they...

The site also includes member’s only section with helpful information for building their businesses and members that pay a subscription fee get a page dedicated to their business. ...

I think I’m one of those rare programmers that believes in the “if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it” philosophy. I used Win98SE long after MS has stopped supporting it. I mean, frankly, systems would run better because there was less crap loaded in. It takes me half a day to get a good install of XP going (I like to use nLite to keep it small). So I guess it comes as...

About André Milton
I shouldn’t be a programmer anymore.
I started with a company in Ottawa called “Ingenia” in 1992. At the time, I built Gopher, FTP, and Telnet sites for schools across Canada. HTTP had just been invented and we were all pretty impressed by Mosaic because unlike Links, you could put images on the page! :) Ah, how far we’ve come.
I was still in high school at the time...
Very late for an early adopter...
Well, I finally did it.
I’m typically an early adopter and bleeding edge type guy but Blogs have never been my thing - until now. I’ve had too many moments while programming where I thought I should share my solutions. I’ve spent way too many nights losing my hair over Flash bugs or browser issues and want to save other developers the trouble. So here it is: My small spot...
