Diving into Flex

I’ve been dabbling with cs3 for a few months and decided to see what all the fuss was about with Flex last week.  My original impressions a few years ago weren’t great but I never really gave Flex a chance.  Frankly, I think we’ve gone a bit too far with XML and MXML is an example of that  (I’ve been opting for JSON over XML lately).  Still, if you look at the MXML part as the markup/presentation layer and the rest is in “traditional” AS files, it makes sense.  And I’m liking it.  Funny how far we’ve come with Flash.  I remember about 10 years ago how much trouble programming was in Flash (version 4).  I couldn’t believe how much trouble I’d have building really simple/silly stuff.  I look at AS3 and Flex and it feels like I’m back to the good old-old days of C++ and COM/OLE programming.  Needless to say, FreshCMS 2.5.2 will use Flex.

World Day Against Software Patents!

Can’t say enough about this.  Copyright is all we need.  Patents do nothing but hamper progress.  Let’s ban patents on software folks.  Check it out:
